Diablo III

Diablo returns for a third installment of the popular franchise.

We spend some quality time with a demo version of Blizzard's upcoming action RPG.

ANAHEIM, California--There are long queues for everything, merchandise is pricey, and the exclusive in-game mounts for World of Warcraft that were included in the price of admission can't be claimed yet. The trip to this year's Blizz-Con event has definitely been worthwhile though, because Diablo III is playable here for the first time anywhere outside of Blizzard's office.....More

Activision jams with the band on 86 songs confirmed for latest installment of blockbuster rhythm game; launch set for October 26.

Dragon Ball Z: Infinite World

The popular spiky-haired Saiyan is back in Dragon Ball Z: Infinite World, where developer Dimps--responsible for the Budokai series--has taken the best features from the last three games and combined it into Infinite World. This PlayStation 2 game is still a fighting game at its core, but it includes minigames to break up the gameplay and a cast of over 40 characters to choose from. This may be the last time we see a Dragon Ball Z game on the PlayStation 2 from Atari, and from our brief playtime with a yet-to-be-finished build at Atari's Gamers' Day in San Francisco, it seems to be coming along nicely.....

Rise of the Argonauts

There's plenty of "oh snap" moments in Codemasters' upcoming Rise of the Argonauts for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and most of them involve using a huge mace to bust a dude's head like a ripe melon. Or impaling him with a spear, lifting him high off of the ground, and then smashing him down to earth. Or slicing him in half with a... Well, you get the idea. The action role-playing game, based loosely on the classic Greek myth of Jason and the Argonauts' quest for the Golden Fleece, may be running fast and loose with historical myth, but its controls and combat system--though certainly over-the-top--seem firmly rooted in the real. Yesterday, we had a chance to see the game again and check out a new level for the first time....

Metal Gear Solid 4 : Guns of the Patriots

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is the most technically stunning video game ever made. It's also a fine example of storytelling prowess within its medium, combining gameplay and narrative so slickly and beautifully that it's impossible to extricate one from the other. It's likely you will emerge awestruck from your first play-through, wishing the experience would continue yet nonetheless satisfied with its conclusion. It's difficult not to sound hyperbolic when discussing MGS4 because every part of its design seemingly fulfills its vision, without compromise. There is no halfway.....

Silent Hill: Homecoming

The titular homecoming of the upcoming Silent Hill game holds a number of meanings. We recently had the chance to play through the first few hours of Silent Hill: Homecoming, and we've gathered our impressions together in one place about this, the most atmospheric Silent Hill yet. Velvet Assassin

n this World War II game, spy work and stealth kills replace rocket launchers and tanks.

Replay Studios may be a relatively small operation, but it has a few big challenges lying ahead of it. Beside the potential for uneasiness that goes along with being a German developer creating a World War II game, this Hamburg-based studio has set out to do something unique with a timeline that's been dominated by first-person shooters. Velvet Assassin, Replay's forthcoming attempt at WWII stealth action, is a game that's more Splinter Cell than Call of Duty. Rather than plowing through Nazis like a one-man tank, you'll be assuming the role of female spy Violet Summers as you sneak through the shadows and take out soldiers with swift but deadly stealth kills. We recently had the opportunity to spend some hands-on time with Velvet Assassin, fighting that eternal battle between catlike patience and an itchy trigger finger.....More

PAX 2008: Ryan Payton on Kojima, Japan

The former English-speaking face of Metal Gear Solid 4 talks about his duties on the game, the real reason Japanese gamers aren't buying the Xbox 360, and more.

SEATTLE--When Konami makes the next Metal Gear Solid game, Hideo Kojima won't the only noticeable absence on the development team. Earlier this week, word arrived that Ryan Payton had left Konami's Kojima Productions after three years.

Best known for his English-language podcast, Payton worked his way up from handling international coordination on Metal Gear Acid 2 for the PlayStation Portable to working as an assistant producer on Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. Along the way he also earned credits on Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, and Lunar Knights. He increasingly found his role drifting from marketing duties toward more hands-on development work with Portable Ops and Guns of the Patriots.......

Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution for Xbox360

Ever since its inception in the early 1990s, Sid Meier's critically acclaimed Civilization series has challenged players to "build an empire to stand the test of time." Civilization Revolution is the newest scion of the series, and like its predecessors, it's a turn-based strategy game in which you take charge of a notable historical civilization and lead them from humble beginnings to world domination. Faced with the great challenge of preserving the strategic breadth of the series while streamlining the experience for consoles, developer Firaxis games has succeeded admirably. The result is a distilled version of Civilization that will please series veterans and newcomers alike.....
