50 Cent: Blood on the Sand

50 Cent is back from the dead and still sporting an itchy trigger finger.

When we first had a look at 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand this past April, we could tell this arcade-style shooter would be a game filled to the brim with casualties. What few expected, though, was that the game would be a casualty itself. Blood on the Sand was slated to be published by Sierra, but when its parent company, Vivendi, merged with Activision, the newly formed conglomerate chose to shed the weight of 50 Cent's muscular frame instead of taking on publishing duties. Fortunately, THQ has come along and assumed the role of knight in shining armor, and now Blood on the Sand is once again slated for release this January. We recently took a look at an updated version of the game to see what sort of progress developer Swordfish Studios has made in these turbulent months since we last saw it......More

Smarter than 5th grader? Review

Despite some difficulty spikes, Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? is a welcome addition to the booming collection of Xbox 360 trivia games

The Good

  • Lots of trivia questions
  • Many subjects/categories to choose from
  • Fully captures the gameshow's vibe
  • Multiplayer is fun with family and friends.

The Bad

  • Some questions are out of place and way too tough
  • Jagged edges on character models
  • Poor Big Button Pad implementation.

With the addition of Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? to the Xbox 360's growing stack of quiz games, you have yet another solid collection of questions to dip into. Though you might scoff at the price of 1,200 Microsoft points, your 15 bucks goes a long way in this well-realized Xbox Live Arcade adaptation of the popular TV gameshow. The wide variety of subjects, the seemingly endless questions, and a stellar vibe that fully brings the elementary-school-themed television show to life make Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? a worthy inclusion on your list of downloadable games, a few minor hindrances notwithstanding......more

Bully: Scholarship Edition Review

PC game enthusiasts know they're in trouble when a game's menus require keyboard input rather than allow you a mouse pointer. That's the first indication, but hardly the last, that this version of Rockstar Games' boisterous look at schoolyard folly is just a quick cash-in. There seems to be little regard for the platform here: The game suffers from numerous bugs and glitches, the keyboard and mouse controls are awkward, and for a game that hardly pushes the capabilities of a halfway decent computer, it performs poorly. It's too bad, because at heart, Bully is one of the better gameplay experiences in recent years, letting you break a drunken schoolteacher out of an asylum, help the lunch lady drug her date, steal panties from the girls' dorm, and take pictures of snotty kids sitting on the lap of a homeless Santa. But with little in the way of meaningful additions and all sorts of platform-specific problems, Bully on the PC just feels rushed....More
